Boston Celtics: B/R believes Cs should target THIS free agent

The Boston Celtics have limited roster flexibility this offseason due to several incoming draft picks and two-way players that need their contracts converted. Bleacher Report believes they should target this veteran anyway.

This offseason for the Boston Celtics is a difficult one to project at this very moment. The Cs open up their Eastern Conference finals series against the Miami Heat tonight, and the results of this series should directly impact Danny Ainge’s offseason strategy.

If Boston wins this series and clinches their first NBA Finals berth in over a decade, it will be hard to justify trading anything away–picks included. With Jayson Tatum set for a super-max that kicks in for 2021-22, the team cannot afford to add any long-term money.

That said, a loss here against Miami–coupled with clear examples of inexperience costing the team in pivotal situations–could cause the team to think about adding more veterans in the offseason.

This approach could see a roster crunch of trading away future draft picks and recent draftees. It could also take them to the free agent market, where Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale believes the Celtics can find a shot-creator and veteran bench scorer in Alec Burks:

"Settling on another guard who can create his own shot while playing off everyone else feels right. Brad Wanamaker isn’t an afterthought, but he’s a restricted free agent (Early Bird) and more of a power driver who can knock down looks off the catch.Alec Burks can do more with the rock. He drained 39.4 percent of his pull-up threes during the regular season, a top-seven mark among 64 players to get off at least 100 such attempts. His efficiency fits neatly into an offensive ecosystem that depended on these looks more than any team outside Houston, and he shouldn’t gum up the pecking order. He fares well enough on spot-up treys (37.7 percent) to work in tandem with other ball-handlers but should be a boon for the stretches in which Tatum and Kemba Walker are both on the bench."

What do you think Boston Celtics fans? Would you be in favor of the team signing Burks in free agency or would you prefer the team build through the draft?
