Former Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas said to a fan on Twitter that he would return to be a backup for the Cs…and anyone else offering a contract.

As the NBA Playoffs rage on in the Lake Buena Vista bubble, the Boston Celtics are proving that they have belonged in the contender conversation all season–returning to form with a signature Game 5 beatdown of the defending champs and taking control of the series 3-2.

Noted observers have been chiming in on the action. Who could forget Paul Pierce’s player rankings in this series? Kendrick Perkins always has a vested interest as well of course. Then, there’s the other beloved former Celtic that always seems to get involved with the conversation of returning to the team: Isaiah Thomas.

Obviously, everyone loves IT for his inspiring 2016-17 season, and so naturally, the question of returning is a frequent one. Replying to a fan on Twitter, the former fifth-ranked finisher in the 2017 MVP race was bullish about a return to Boston…or anywhere willing to sign him:

Thomas may have a tough road to climb to be considered to be a backup. Danny Ainge would need to consolidate several of his young assets–whether it be the three upcoming first-round picks or his 2019 draft class–to create roster space for the Celtic great.

He’d also need to shift his mindset to acquiring veterans, while also deciding he is healthy enough to replace Brad Wanamaker, who just had a 15/3/2 game off the bench in a critical Game 5. Perhaps knowing Boston isn’t the ideal landing spot right now, Thomas kept all his options open.

What do you think Celtics fans? Would you welcome IT back to Beantown?
