The former Boston Celtics point guard backed up his former Defensive Player of the Year teammate when critiquing the current DPOY.

Don’t you love it when former teammates still have each other’s backs? This was the case yesterday for former Boston Celtics teammates Isaiah Thomas and Marcus Smart when the former tweeted a response to a video of current Defensive Player of the Year Giannis Antetokounmpo denying that he wanted to guard Jimmy Butler in Milwaukee’s loss to the Heat on Monday:

Notice the loyalty of both Smart and his other former Celtics teammate Avery Bradley in Thomas’ critique of Antetokounmpo. Interestingly enough, he even threw in the name of Kawhi Leonard, who although technically a teammate when Thomas was traded to the Clippers, never played a game with him.

Thomas isn’t impressed with the fire of Milwaukee’s lead dog. There have been questions as to whether the “Greek Freak” could be the best player on a championship team, as Toronto was able to take their series in last year’s Eastern Conference finals because of scheme adjustments aimed at shutting him down last year.

Miami was able to suppress Antetokounmpo in Game 1, limiting him to just 18 points on just 4/12 shooting from the floor. If they can continue to successfully gameplan against him, and Milwaukee suffers from Eric Bledsoe’s absence any further, the Bucks may be in trouble.

Such a scenario isn’t one Thomas believes a DPOY and reigning MVP should be in.

What do you guys think? Would Smart, Bradley, or Leonard have taken Butler as a defensive assignment? Is IT right in criticizing Antetokounmpo?
