Fanduel released its updated title odds. The Boston Celtics were given the sixth-best odds to win the title, and third-best odds to win the east.

It appears as though the Boston Celtics have not earned the respect of the oddsmakers yet following their dominant sweep of the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Fanduel gave the C’s the sixth-best title odds (+1200 or alternatively, betting $100 wins $1,200), behind the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto Raptors and Houston Rockets–in that order.

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report glowed of the C’s Sixers sweep, noting the talent they faced even without Ben Simmons in uniform:

"Sweeping a Philadelphia 76ers team was impressive even without Ben Simmons playing as a core of Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, Al Horford and Josh Richardson is certainly paid well enough to win at least one playoff game on their own.Boston passed a major test in the process by knocking out a team with an elite big man. With starting center Daniel Theis standing just 6’8″ and 245 pounds, easily taking out arguably the biggest team in the league, especially one led by Embiid, should give the Celtics plenty of confidence moving forward."

The glowing praise is all well and good, but Fanduel missed the mark. Losing Gordon Hayward will not hurt the C’s nearly as much as the absence of Kyle Lowry will hurt the Toronto Raptors. Speaking of which, how is Boston behind a Houston Rockets team that has been missing Russell Westbrook and is now tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder (third-lowest title odds of remaining teams) in their #4-#5 matchup?

The C’s didn’t get the love from oddsmakers here, but they have a golden opportunity to make a mark when they take on the defending champions in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
