The 76ers have their feet out the door

In a normal NBA year, a team that is down 3-0 in the very first round of the NBA playoffs is down, but not out. For Philadelphia, today’s game would normally be a good chance to annoy the Boston Celtics and force them to travel back to Beantown with the series still going.

Instead, the 76ers have the chance to extend their stay in an isolated bubble away from their families, where they would then have to focus on winning another three games to keep their 2019-20 season alive.

That doesn’t sound fun for a team in the middle of a pandemic if you ask me. Sweeps this year seem less difficult for the losing team because of the freedom of leaving the bubble and returning to their family lives.

Having an extra playoff game in your home arena is a boost to the local economy. Arena workers, local restaurants and bars, and other commerce all benefit from the hoopla of postseason basketball.

No one (besides television advertisers) really benefits from this series extending. Considering how one-sided the series has been, not even Philadelphia would benefit from prolonging this toxic season.

It’d be best for that franchise to be cleanly swept out of the playoffs so they can hit reset on their franchise. The Boston Celtics will do what is best today when they put Philadelphia out of their misery.
