C’s key to victory No. 2) Set up Brad Wanamaker
This one seems a little odd for us to write. For the majority of this season, we’ve discussed many reasons as to why the Boston Celtics should look into replacing backup point guard Brad Wanamaker at the climax of this season, and numerous options in which Danny Ainge should consider replacing him with.
From his capped athletic abilities to his less than desirable age for a sophomore player — 30-years-old — we’ve pulled out all the stops in regard to reasons as to why the change should be strongly considered by the time 2020-21 rolls around.
And, while we still believe this to be the case, there’s still ample time to play in 2019-20, and Wanamaker finds himself still in the position he’s in. With this, the Cs should utilize the strength we believe to be his best: 3-point shooting.
On the season, the point guard has shot effectively from long range, dropping his attempts in at a 36 percent clip. Though he’s not one to create for himself, he is an effective catch & shoot sniper, converting on an impressive 48 percent of said attempts from distance.
It’s no secret that the team’s bench has been hindered significantly with Marcus Smart now being inserted into the starting lineup. Should Brad Stevens work to draw up some screen plays to get the senior-citizen sophomore some open looks, it may do wonders for the second unit’s offense and, in turn, the entire team’s production.
