Isaiah Thomas is angling to return to this team…and it isn’t the Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics are not the team Isaiah Thomas has in mind for his return to the NBA next season.
As long as Hardwood Houdini publishes articles, we will always welcome Isaiah Thomas back to the Boston Celtics with open arms.
Even as his game as declined over the years since his magical two-and-a-half-year ride with the C’s, Thomas has always teased Celtics nation with the idea of once again donning the green and white.
Now, though, he is teasing something different entirely. He recently responded to a tweet from Jared Dudley talking about contending teams for next season, and had this to say:
“I need that (Warriors) action. I’ll come off the bench…”
That is one heck of a proposal from the 31-year-old, who last played for the Washington Wizards before being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers and waived as part of the deal that landed them Marcus Morris.
Now, it is worth noting that publically declaring interest in playing for the Golden State Warriors isn’t the statement it used to be. The Warriors were the worst team in the league in 2019-20 without Klay Thompson and Steph Curry for much of (and in Thompson’s case, all of) the season.
Still, it is interesting that Thomas is so willing to be apart of the Warriors culture that he’d proudly back up Curry, a former two-time MVP. Golden State–as Dudley mentioned–should be in the conversation for an NBA championship next season with their core healthy and the addition of either a top draft pick or a valued asset they traded the pick for.
Whether Golden State further tweaks their roster or not, there is room for the fringes for Thomas…even if he does belong in Boston Celtics green and white when it’s all said and done at the very least.
