Boston Celtics news: Romeo Langford injured in final regular season game
The Boston Celtics rookie left the final game of the regular season with an apparent wrist injury.
While the Boston Celtics lost their final game of the season against the Washington Wizards 96-90 this afternoon, the true loss could be in the form of the C’s lone 2019 lottery pick Romeo Langford.
The final contest on the C’s seeding slate was as meaningless as it gets…making the injury sting even worse. Langford has had a history of injuries to his right hand, missing summer league last season due to surgery on a torn ligament. His rookie year campaign saw more time spent on the DL (and in the G-League) than on the hardwood with the Boston Celtics.
Today’s game was akin to a scrimmage, with Brad Stevens resting the starters for their upcoming series with the Philadelphia 76ers. It didn’t come without an unfortunate injury to a player who had scored six points to go along with four rebounds and four assists in 30 minutes of action before leaving the game.
Now, Langford exits the C’s rotation at an inopportune time. The playoffs start in less than a week, and the C’s may be missing him in a series he could have gotten reps in, assuming Boston handles a Philadelphia team without Ben Simmons with relative ease.
Langford isn’t guaranteed minutes when he returns. The playoffs tend to see shortened rotations, and he doesn’t offer the niche defense or shooting someone as Semi Ojeleye does. In fact, he may have lost out on the chance to solidify his playoff spot for when Gordon Hayward leaves the bubble in September for the birth of his newborn child with his wife Robyn.
We don’t currently know the severity of his injury, but history tells us he may be due to miss time…at the very worst time possible.
