The Boston Celtics will rest the entirety of their core today for their regular-season finale against the Washington Wizards.

Outside of the undefeated Phoenix Suns, the Boston Celtics have been one of the hottest teams over the past four games.

Despite starting off the bubble a bit discombobulated, going 1-2 during their first three games, the team now boasts a record of 5-2 after rattling off four consecutive wins against the Brooklyn Nets, the Toronto Raptors, the Orlando Magic, and the Memphis Grizzlies, respectively — two of which ended in blow-out fashion.

Now, with perhaps their easiest opponent of the Disney bubble in the Washington Wizards, the recently extended Brad Stevens (congratulations Brad!) has decided it would be best to rest his entire starting five of Kemba Walker, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Gordon Hayward, and Daniel Theis as well as their life-blood Swiss Army man, Marcus Smart.

With this decision, the Boston Celtics officially become the 19th team in the history of the league, and the first team in the Eastern Conference since the Moses Malone, Julius Erving, and Andrew Toney-led Philadelphia 76ers back in 1983-84, with Tatum, Walker, and Brown averaging 23.4, 20.4, and 20.3 points per game, respectively.

With the fact that the Cs will be holding out their entire core, it will open the door for extended play for the youngsters residing on the team such as Romeo Langford, Robert Williams III, Carsen Edwards, Grant Williams, and many more, which will give us, the fans, as well as the team’s decision-makers an opportunity to gauge their value as they move forward.

Boston, boasting a record of 48-23, now is heading towards their sixth straight postseason appearance — officially slated to matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round — while the Washington Wizards — who are 24-47, and have gone 0-7 since entering the bubble — will be watching the playoffs from home for the second consecutive season.
