Boston Celtics: the C’s 5 greatest villains from the 2010s
By Arya Attari
The C’s villain that isn’t a real threat: Nick Wright
One of the least threatening examples of a villain in a movie is Ed Rooney from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Rooney spends the entire film trying to catch Ferris for skipping school with no success. He’s not a threat to Ferris, and the audience sure doesn’t ever believe he’s going to be (SPOILER ALERT: he comes close at the end to catching Ferris after getting demolished the entire movie only to come up short again).
With this in mind, Nick Wright could too be seen as a villain for the Boston Celtics.
Anytime he’s on TV and a Celtics topic or question comes up he always portrays the team in a negative light. I understand that he has biases (we all do) given how he (wrongly) views LeBron James as the best basketball player of all-time, but some of these takes are just extra negative against Boston.
Literally Google “Nick Wright Celtics” and you will see exactly what I’m talking about. Here’s a list of the first four searches that came up when I typed that in as I write this.
1. Nick Wright Gives Celtics Zero Percent Chance to Win NBA Title
2. Celtics fans will appreciate Enes Kanter’s response to Nick Wright’s East title pick
3. Why Nick Wright is ‘Rooting’ For Celtics (Who He Hates) To Reach NBA Finals
4. Nick Wright has managed to be wrong about Jayson Tatum every step of the way
Given that, I think it’s safe to say he won’t be at the garden wearing green anytime soon (I guess that holds true for all of us sadly these days, but you know what I mean).
However, at the end of the day, he’s only a media personality. Nothing he says or does has an impact on what goes on when the Celtics are playing a game. He’s a villain that isn’t a threat.
That said, his takes still get under my skin though.
