What are the best-case scenarios for two of the Boston Celtics’ rising stars?

Not many teams in the league have the foundation to compete now while also possessing the ability and capacity to get even better over the next half-decade. The Boston Celtics are one of the teams uniquely positioned to do both.

When the NBA season was suspended, the C’s had a top-five record, while also registering top-five marks for defense, offense, and net rating. They are legitimate right now even if the Nick Wright’s in the world want to put them down and deny the greatness of Jayson Tatum.

This season has seen a meteoric leap from Tatum that lines up unfavorably for Kyrie Irving in the optics department. Given that his best ball during the Irving era was when the point guard was injured–and also during their best playoff run since 2010–the idea that Irving was slowing his rise was already out in the universe but is completely valid now.

At this point, it’s fair to christen Tatum as a superstar. Bleacher Report even ranked him just outside the top ten. To say Tatum is a rising star is moving the goalposts for what being a star entails.
