Rising Star No. 3) Devonte Graham

Devonte Graham broke out this past season for the Charlotte Hornets, but his stats took a noticeable tip after teams began to figure him out as the season progressed. That said, there is no denying the undersized Hornets guard is a walking bucket. Why does that sound familiar?

Graham is truly a shooting guard that can’t be matched up with some of the bigger two-guards in the league. Imagine Graham having to guard a bulky athlete like Jaylen Brown? That’s why the Hornets have used him as the de facto point guard on defense in tandem with Terry Rozier, who would guard those physical 2’s.

Speaking of Rozier, Charlotte may choose the former Celtic over Graham for their backcourt. Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer noted James Borrego’s praise for the 2018 playoff hero:

"“Terry has been fantastic,” Borrego said. “He’s exceeded my expectations.” I was curious specifically what Borrego meant; what he thought he was getting when the Hornets pursued Rozier in July and what the Hornets actually got. “His shot-making ability, his tenacity, his physical play on the ball defensively,” Borrego said of Rozier’s best traits. “And just his willingness to accept a role. That’s not easy.”"

With that sort of confidence in Rozier, perhaps the Hornets could send Graham away at the next trade deadline before he is due for a raise. In Boston, Graham would be an ideal sixth man. He’d have a similar player that reached the top tier to guide him in Walker, and defense won’t be able to zone in on him with all of the threats in the C’s lineup.
