Rising Star No. 2) Deandre Ayton

Deandre Ayton is stuck on a team that may not be able to best maximize his talents. Ayton is a beast in the paint and from the mid-range, but the offense is very much based on Devin Booker‘s decisions from isolation sets, and that oftentimes results in a shot being put up.

The C’s can definitely use a big with the repertoire of Ayton in their lineup. Daniel Theis will always be a safe option considering the lack of offensive weapons he possesses and the fact that his build is what history has always considered a power forward.

Ayton is a legitimate giant, and he plays like one as well. This season, he is averaging 19 points and 12 rebounds, numbers only a young Shaquille O’Neal ever amassed at such a young age. Unfortunately, the lack of team success, and the presence of Booker, has all but suppressed the hype Ayton should be receiving.

That’s what being on a losing team in a market that has been shunned by the national media due to years of futility will do for you. For Ayton to maximize his own growth, landing on a team like the Boston Celtics next to a transcendent talent in Jayson Tatum would give him the spotlight he deserves.
