The Boston Celtics already have stars, but there are several young difference-makers out there that could fit in perfectly with their All-NBA talents.

Never content, Danny Ainge is always looking for the next upgrade. It’s how the Boston Celtics were able to swap an injured Isaiah Thomas for Kyrie Irving, and how he was able to slide an All-NBA point guard in Kemba Walker into his place when he departed.

That is also how the team was able to acquire several first-round picks from the Brooklyn Nets after the championship core of the late 2000’s was on its way down from excellence. When it comes to opportunistic general managers, Ainge is in the thick of the conversation.

This offseason may not be one that needs wholesale changes. When the C’s arrive in Central Flordia for the NBA season’s resumption, they figure to be one of the top teams again after amassing the fifth-best record during the 2019-20 season so far.

That said, nothing is guaranteed in the bubble. Teams may not perform well after spending four months away from each other, and away from professional training with their team’s staff. There could be more upsets than usual or–far worse yet–more injuries and illness than normal seasons.

Essentially, the Boston Celtics could find out that the pieces don’t fit well enough to win as currently constructed. In that scenario, perhaps there could be some sweeping changes this offseason.
