Gordon Hayward is set to leave the Boston Celtics in September if the team gets that far due to the impending birth of his fourth child. It is expected that he will return to his home state of Indiana to be with his family during labor.

Now, the reason for pointing that out isn’t because we are sickos who lack empathy for a player who wants to put his family first and are mad at the thought of losing him for any amount of time. Really, it has to do with the fact that if Hayward was to be shipped off anywhere this offseason, it may as well be a destination that would work for a guy who has worked hard to regain his All-Star form after beginning his Boston Celtics career in the most gruesome and tragic way possible.

The return here would bolster the depth of the team and strengthen the center position in a big way. T.J. Warren could serve as the replacement at the small forward spot or be a super-sub off the bench to make way for Marcus Smart to start. Myles Turner is an exciting young player who may not be able to rise any higher because of the presence of Domantas Sabonis in Indiana.

This deal unlocks plenty for both teams. While the C’s would be giving up the best player in the deal, their overall lineup versatility will improve ten-fold from acquiring a center with a higher ceiling and a rugged defender and scorer in Warren.
