Player Cs should scout No. 2: Mo Bamba, C

For those of you who’ve followed the Houdini for some time now — we love you guys –, you might be wondering why we always talk about the Boston Celtics hypothetically trading for Mo Bamba.

Well, folks, the answer is quite simple: he’s a perfect fit in green & white.

We all know it, one of the biggest weak spots within the Celtics’ rotation is their center position. And, while their starting option Daniel Theis has played very well throughout his first year as a starter — 9.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks a game on 57 percent shooting from the floor — it’s evident the team still should look into bolstering the position if they wish to ascend in the power rankings as time moves on.

Bamba could serve as that fix.

Currently the backup the Nikola Vucevic in Orlando, the former sixth overall pick is averaging a mere 14.5 minutes per game to go along with 5.5 points, five rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game on 47 percent shooting from the floor and 37 percent shooting from deep.

Sure, we get it — Mo Bamba is still relatively unproven. Starting just one game thus far, and only reaching the 20-29 minute threshold 10 times, it is hard to confidently say the Boston Celtics front office — and frankly its fans — should believe he’s shown what it takes to be the center of the future for the team moving forward.

However, it must be noted, that when bestowed these starter-esque minutes, the center has produced admirably. With these minutes, Bamba finds himself averaging 8.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and an impressive 2.1 blocks per game on 54 percent shooting from the floor and 50 percent shooting from deep.

A small sample size? Sure, but when will it be time to finally give him a chance to shine?!

Truth be told, as long as Vucevic — signed to a $100 million contract that spans through 2022-23 — is in The City Beautiful, the young big is destined to be held back.

It’s time to let Mo Bamba roam, and the best place for him to do so would be with the Boston Celtics.

A legitimate seven-footer who can score efficiently, play exquisite defense and stretch the floor? Where can we sign the shamrocks up?

Make no mistake about it, Boston looking into acquiring Mo Bamba this offseason is well within the realm of possibility.
