Potential transaction-window casualty No. 2: Javonte Green, SG

Unlike our last listed talent, Javonte Green is a player in which the team could actually drop from the roster during this upcoming transaction period and it would have no ramifications on the team’s salary cap come next season.

Throughout his training camp invite and during the preseason, fans of the Boston Celtics and even us here at the Houdini were all very impressed with the former Radford University standout’s play. Averaging 9.3 points and four rebounds on a whopping 80 percent shooting from the floor, Green made the cut for the C’s final roster and earned himself a partially guaranteed contract.

Unfortunately, however, this level of play did not follow him into the regular season and, over time, found his way farther and farther back on the bench.

Through 44 games played — even seeing one as a starter — Green has put up averages of 2.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and a half a steal per game on 50 percent shooting from the floor and 26 percent shooting from deep.

Truth be told, I don’t enjoy saying that Green could serve as a player that might be replaced by season’s end, as he’s shown glimpses of solid defense and a sound athletic ability. However, with this upcoming transaction window, it could be a good time to add some players who could fill inane provide some much-needed services (bench scoring, defensive presence down low, etc.).

Unfortunately, if Danny Ainge opts to utilize this period, Javonte Green seems to be the most likely cap casualty.
