G-League call-up option No. 3: Bryce Brown, G

Bryce Brown is the name — a name I hope becomes well known among Boston Celtics fans in the near future.

The 22-year old guard out of Aubrun was signed to the Red Claws in the offseason and has been lighting it up ever since. One of the Celtics’ biggest needs is bench scoring and he can provide just that.

This season in Maine, Brown is averaging 16.1 points while shooting 44 percent from the field and 43 percent from deep on nine attempts a game (!!).

I’ll say it again.

Brown shoots 43 percent from deep on NINE attempts a game.

Does that not sound like a perfect bench scorer to anyone else?

The 6-3 guard has had several games this season where he just completely took over. Check out the highlights from his season-high 43-point performance.

That game sums up his offensive skillset. As you can see, his quick & smooth jumper allows him to be a great catch and shoot threat in transition and even better coming off screens. He is also really effective off the ball.

Being able to move through screens and keeping the defense on their toes helps to make him that much more impactful.

His balance as a shooter shouldn’t go unstated. No matter the situation (transition, off a screen, tough contest), Brown never looks off-balance when he shoots. Never rushed, never hesitant.

That is a phenomenal trait to have for a player with his skillset.

And yes, I know the G-League is a significant dropoff from the NBA in regards to opposing defense, but shooters with the skillset like Brown are able to fit in just about every offensive system.

As previously stated, it will be tough to find a spot in the rotation for him, but I think the Celtics would be doing themselves a disservice if they didn’t give him a shot in at least one of the regular season games leading to the Playoffs.

Sure, Bryce Brown has his weaknesses. He wouldn’t be in the G-League if he didn’t.

However, with the rosters set to expand for the rest of the season, the scoring guard could be the perfect addition to the team so desperate for a lights out shooter.

Next. Second unit scorers Cs could sign for 8-game regular season. dark
