The Boston Celtics will be drafting for short-term need whenever the 2020 NBA Draft takes place, but they could also be primed to replace players who might not be able to be retained for the long-term.

When the NBA Draft takes place presumably sometime in the fall, the Boston Celtics will be armed with three first round draft picks. In addition to their own, the C’s will be drafting in the late-teens if the Memphis Grizzlies retain their playoff spot as well as one of the final picks of the first round via the Milwaukee Bucks.

This will be the second draft in a row where the team will sport multiple first round picks. Last year, they traded down out of the first round and were able to select Carsen Edwards with the 33rd pick. This year, it’s plausible they go the opposite way and trade up in the draft.

Now, truth be told, this year’s draft doesn’t appear to be the strongest. That said, the 2013 draft was low on top-tier talent but still produced arguably the league’s most dominant player in Giannis Antetokounmpo at the 15th pick.

Writing off an entire draft class is never a prudent move. Obviously Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum were can’t miss prospects, but the C’s have found value later in the draft as well, most recently selecting Robert Williams with the 27th pick in the 2018 draft.

If Boston can find value in this year’s draft, that could go a long way in alleviating the pain the team will face in the coming years when it has to replace players due for big raises.

Here are 3 such players the Celtics could be drafting to replace this off-season:
