According to ESPN, a return to play is expected by July 31st. The league’s plan is for a 22-team return in Orlando, Florida. According to sources, each of the teams included will play eight regular-season games in Orlando for seeding purposes for the postseason.
With these reports, we can now finally say with confidence: The NBA is back!
Now, for quite some time fans have been confident that if the season ever returned, the Cs would be smack dab in the race for legitimately contending for the Larry O’Brien trophy in 2020 and, in some respects, have a bit of an advantage over the other upper-echelon teams in the association.
Prior to the COVID-19 induced hiatus on March 11th, the Boston Celtics found themselves in the midst of quite a successful campaign. Accumulating a record of 43-21, the shamrocks placed third in the standings out east, fifth in the entire NBA and, with their victory over the Indiana Pacers on March 10th, found themselves headed to their sixth straight postseason.
Had there been no interruption in the season we at the Houdini strongly believed the Celtics had a legitimate chance to contend for a title this season. Frankly, despite this hiccup, we still believe this to be the case.
