Boston Celtics 2020 Mock Draft 2.0
By Mark Nilon
No. 30) Josh Green, Arizona
Though Nico Mannion has been the most often talked about Arizona Wildcat heading into the 2020 NBA Draft, it has been our understanding at the Houdini that, if the Boston Celtics were to target anyone from the team’s backcourt, it should be Josh Green.
Like many selections outside of the top-10, pickings are indeed slim and teams begin to draft more so for need rather than overall talent. By the time the 30th pick comes around, if Josh Green is still available, there will assuredly be no better option in regard to both talent and need within the C’s rotation.
Throughout his one-and-done season with the Wildcats, the shooting guard posted impressive averages 12 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game on 42 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent shooting from deep.
Though he would add much-needed scoring off the pine, defensively he’d fit right into the second unit’s third-highest rated unit in regard to Defensive Rating (50.8).
Listing at 6-6 with a 6-10 wingspan, Green showcased the ability to cover multiple positions during his time at the collegiate level. His length also helped in his attempts to pick pockets, as he led his team in steals and was ranked sixth in the entire Pac-12 Conference.
With some comparing the 19-year-old to Phoenix Suns’ wing Kelly Oubre Jr., having the likes of Josh Green coming off the pine in 2020-21 might turn out to be a true blessing for the Boston Celtics.
