The first player up for exile is the highest drafted player for the Boston Celtics in 2019: Romeo Langford. Langford was a questionable pick at the time, with higher upside players like Sekou Doumbouya and Goga Bitadze still on the board when the C’s were on the clock.

Since then, it has only become more clear that the doubts were justified. After having an expansive injury history throughout his high school and collegiate playing days, Langford missed 36 games before the season was suspended.

In the games he did play, he didn’t break out in any meaningful way outside of a 16-point performance against the Eastern Conference worst Atlanta Hawks. Shooting under 40 percent from the field overall and an abysmal 22 percent from the 3-point line, Langford didn’t inspire much hope outside of his defense and athleticism that he can do much in the league.

That’s why trading him for someone that was picked seven spots later than him in the same draft–like Brandon Clarke–would likely require the Boston Celtics to part ways with at least one, if not multiple, draft picks. Bleacher Report recently put out a piece with just the first rounder, but to acquire a legitimate building block and impact player in Clarke, it will likely mean making Memphis a stronger offer. One would hope this deal would get it done.
