Vincent Poirier

Also 26 years old, Vincent Poirier is one of Danny Ainge’s international gambles the past few offseasons. Unlike Daniel Theis, who has completely surprised fans and pundits alike with his competency at the starting center position, Poirier has failed to make even a minimal impact in the C’s oft-maligned center rotation.

The door was open for Poirier to make a tangible impact after both Enes Kanter and Robert Williams suffered various injuries throughout the season. With Tacko Fall being seen as a long-term project, the experienced Poirier had a shot to get minutes at the backup pivot spot.

Instead, he whiffed out on his preseason opportunities before being usurped in the rotation by the six-foot-six Grant Williams. Poirier, a seven-footer, had problems establishing himself in the paint, often registering no shot attempts and few rebounds.

After playing for the French national team this past Summer, Poirier wasn’t supposed to take this much time to develop. He had years of experience under his belt overseas just like Javonte Green, but based off of their play, you’d think it was Green who earned a two-year guaranteed deal instead of Poirier.

It’s been a disappointing run for the man who deemed himself “Mr. Sexy Pants”. Due to the number of able bodied big men that will be on the roster in 2020-21, with Fall also potentially needing a new deal in the off-season depending on what the ruling is for two-way contracts, Poirier could have an easy case to be given up on.
