Boston Celtics: ranking the 3 most tradable players
By Mark Nilon
Jaylen Brown, F
Lost behind the huge storylines surrounding Kemba Walker and Jayson Tatum’s All-Star campaigns has been Jaylen Brown’s production in 2019-20.
Serving as the team’s third option, the 23-year-old has bounced back from an underwhelming 2018-19 season in a BIG way. Through 50 games the wing has put up statistical highs virtually all across the board.
Averaging 34 minutes a game Brown is posting 20.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.1 steals on 49 percent shooting from the field and 38 percent shooting from deep. Arguably an All-Star snub this season, the wing has proven to be more than deserving of the $115 million contract extension that was highly criticized — admittedly, even by us — prior to the start of the season.
Boy, did he make us look like fools!
Sure, the team’s two main cogs are Walker and Tatum and, thus, would obviously be seen as the most highly coveted players on the Boston Celtics for any team interested in trading with them. Only problem is — at least, for opposing teams — is that there’s no shot Danny would consider discussing deals for either of them.
With all this in mind, it’s clear that the team’s most realistic trade option — regardless of how likely it is he’d be dealt or not — is Brown.
Producing at this level whilst only 23 and not yet even on the first year of his extension (kicks in next season), the idea of adding Brown as your team’s second or, potential, first option is quite an intriguing prospect for virtually any general manager around the league, especially one who serves for a team that struggles to nab quality talent via free agency.
His value is quite similar to that of Brandon Ingram’s from last year — averaged 18.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and three assists a game on 50 percent shooting in 2018-19. Now, we remember what the Lakers were able to get with him as the centerpiece in a trade package right?
Correct ladies and gents, they landed a man by the name of Anthony Davis.
No, we’re not suggesting in any way that the team should look into trading Jaylen Brown. Even though we’ve discussed numerous trade packages that include him in it, they are all hypothetical and, frankly, just fun to concoct.
We see the wing as a long term piece for this team moving forward and, as fans, should feel glad that we have such a talented player like him as our third option.
Still, of all the players on the Boston Celtics not named Kemba Walker and Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown easily has the most trade value.
