Prediction: Jayson Tatum makes an All-NBA Team

Year one of Jayson Tatum being the focal point of the offense for the Boston Celtics has proven to be an absolute success. Sure, some may have been a little skeptical about the development of the wing, after he somewhat underwhelmed in 2018-19 after being graced with gaudy expectations heading into the season: averaged 15.7 points and six rebounds on 45 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent shooting from deep.

However, through 59 games played, Tatum has put all concerns — no matter how big or small — to rest.

Prior to the suspension, the third year talent was posting career numbers seemingly all across the board. In 34.6 minutes per game he put up 23.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.4 steals and just shy of a block per game on 45 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent shooting from deep.

With his production Tatum helped guide the team to the third best record in the conference and was bestowed the honor of NBA All-Star for the first time in his young career.

Whether it be his performance going toe-to-toe against LeBron James or his outshining of Paul George in a late November boat, the 22-year-old has proven time and time again that he can hang and thrive alongside the rest of the league’s elite wings. However, to say he’ll beat out any of them for a spot on the All-NBA team come season’s end is a bit far fetched.

It is a much welcomed sign to see that, in just his first year as his team’s number one option, he’s put himself, at least, in the conversation for one of the NBA’s most prized honors.

We here at HH believe that, while he likely will fall short of the listings this year, 2020-21 will have a different outcome for the young star. This season was his breakout party.

Next year?

Sky’s the limit.
