The already signed incumbents

Standing in the way of the impressive seven-foot-five stature of the supersized rookie is no fewer than five contracted talents that already have an inside track to making the team and getting minutes over the UCF product.

Daniel Theis has earned the starting center role after a strong 2019-20 season before the suspension…not that Fall ever had a chance of earning the starting spot in the C’s lineup this year or next. Behind him, though, are several contracted talents that could provide a roster crunch that could ultimately hinder Fall.

Enes Kanter is an established option with perhaps the most polished post game on the entire team. While he has served as a mentor of sorts to Fall, he is also serving as a roadblock. Robert Williams is going into his third season with the Celtics, and his development is significantly further along than Fall. Not to mention, Williams is by far the most athletic option at the 5 for Boston.

Beyond those three, Vincent Poirier and Grant Williams have guarantees for the 2020-21 season. While Poirier hasn’t accomplished much in his lone season in the association, Williams has been able to carve out a regular rotation role on Brad Stevens’ depth chart.

That is a headcount of five different players with guaranteed deals that Fall does not possess.
