Javonte Green

Javonte Green was in a much different situation than Poirier. Instead of being a somehwat high-risk gamble to hand two years to after never playing an NBA game, Green was a training camp invite who proved to have enough juice to stick.

And Green did have himself a preseason. His shockingly efficient preseason made it an easy choice to retain him, and with Tremont Waters and Tacko Fall being assigned the long-term project labels by their two-way deals, Green was given a spot on the roster and a role to excel out of the gate.

He played just under 10 minutes per game, and played more than double the amount of games Poirier played in. The problem with the league is, Green’s subpar 3-point percentage and three points per game won’t convince teams to invest in uncertain times.

Cheap undrafted talent will likely be relied on more than ever to fill out roster spots so Danny Ainge could mine for the next undrafted steal. The thing is, Green didn’t turn out to be that, even if he was able to stand in defensively and slash to the rim for easy finishes at the rim.

That likely makes his stint in Boston a short one. Who knows if other NBA opportunities await.
