Boston Celtics: Creating the all-time one-year starting five
By Mark Nilon
The Boston Celtics have be fortunate enough to roster some of the greatest players the NBA has ever seen throughout their 74 year existence. However, not all of them were mainstays with the franchise.
Since their formation in 1946 the Boston Celtics have had the honor of rostering some of the greatest players the game of basketball has ever seen. From Bob Cousy and Bill Russell to Larry Bird and Paul Pierce, the list of talents that have donned the team’s green and white threads would rival just about any other franchise’s group of ballers.
Outside of drafted players — like the ones listed above — the team has also managed to lure many other all-time greats to play for Boston’s favorite NBA organization, including Bill Walton, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, all of whom have been deemed Hall of Fame players.
In short: the history of the Celtics shows talented players at seemingly every turn.
Still, that’s not to say all of these ballers were long-time staples within the organization. Sure, for the most part the team has managed to keep these players happy, healthy and have them stay for long-term tenures, but there are quite a few notable names that lasted no more than one season — or less — with the franchise.
Whether they were traded away from the C’s early on in their careers or acquired and not re-signed after just a season, it is apparent that the team has seen their fair share of short-term talents grace the Boston/ TD Garden’s parquet floor.
Inspired by our FanSided sister site Lake Show Life, we’ve created a starting-five of NBA greats that lasted just one — or less than one — season with the Boston Celtics:
