Kemba Walker

This might be strange to see Kemba Walker included on a list of players who “have the most to prove” if the season were to resume. It’s true, in not even a full season with the Boston Celtics, the 29-year-old has proven to be an unbelievable fit for this young and talented shamrocks squad.

Through 50 games, Walker saw himself posting impressive averages of 21.2 points, 4.9 assists, 4.1 rebounds and just shy of a steal per game on 42 percent shooting from the field and 38 percent shooting from deep.

His play resulted in the point guard being voted in as a starter in this past February’s All-Star game — his second time as a starter, fourth time participating in the exhibition — and easily ranked as one of the top-5 point guard from the 2019-20 campaign.

With him in the lineup the team holds a record of 33-17 and clearly has benefited everyone on the roster, especially the their young talented bucks in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

With all this considered, it would appear that Walker has indeed proven himself as quite a success for the C’s. However, there is still one major unknown regarding the point guard: can he prove his worth in the postseason as well?

Through his nine season in the pros, Walker has only seen playoff action of two separate occasions (2014 & 2016), both of which were first round exits. Sure, we can perhaps chock this fact up to him being surrounded by a mediocre supporting cast — his best teammate throughout his postseason tenure was Al Jefferson — but still, he is very much unproven in regard to having what it takes to lead his team on a deep run.

Stats appear to be on his side, as he averages 21.5 points, 4.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game on 39 percent shooting from deep. However, until we see what he can do with this core group of payers, the question of whether he can help guide the Celtics on a path towards banner number 18 will remain unanswered.
