A new Gatorade commercial pays homage to the classic “Be Like Mike” add of the 1990’s and features the likes of influential figures of modern day basketball, including Boston Celtics All-Star Jayson Tatum.

Though there has been no Boston Celtics, or any other live basketball events for almost two months now — though C’s fans are hopeful the season restarts sometime soon –, NBA fans around the globe are assuredly getting a jolt of joy out of ESPN & Netflix’s epic docu-series “The Last Dance”, which provides an inside look into the final year of the dynastic 1990’s Chicago Bulls.

Of course, no story pertaining to the Bulls’ franchise can be told without the inclusion of the game’s messiah himself, Michael Jordan. Spanning from his rookie season in 1984 all the way up to the conclusion of the team’s second and final three-peat in 1997-98, the documentary covers a substantial amount of ground and events from this 14 year timeline.

From famous playoff bouts to the team’s celebrity life off the court, this series is bringing fans from all areas of the world either on a trip down memory lane or on an educational journey in regard to, arguably, the greatest team(s) that ever was.

The most recent episode that was aired was this past Sunday, where they went into more detail about the behind-the-scenes life of Michael Jordan, as well as the public’s perception of him. With this came the resurfacing of one of the media’s most iconic sports ads — Gatorade’s “Be Like Mike” campaign originally aired in 1992:

No matter if you were alive upon it’s initial airing or born in the years that followed, one thing is almost definitely certain: you’ve seen this incredibly catchy add somewhere before. After all, it’s one of the most iconic commercials of the past 30 years.

In response to the resurfacing of the famed advertisement, Gatorade decided that the sentiment was still alive for players to aspire to “be like Mike” and, in turn, went about making a more updated version.

The newly released campaign features the likes of NBA rookie sensation Zion Williamson, reigning WNBA MVP & champion Elena Delle Donne and current face-of-the-franchise for the Boston Celtics, All-Star forward Jayson Tatum.

Tatum’s inclusion in the ad makes a ton of sense, being he — along with the other two great talents — is one of the best talents modern day basketball has to offer and, on top of this, is represented by “His Airness'” Jordan brand.

In a game chock full of stars, the third year All-Star in Tatum was featured in representing the sport and, arguably, the greatest player to have ever lived which should be seen as exactly what it is: a huge honor.
