Ranking the likelihood of 4 recent blockbuster Boston Celtics trade rumors
2. Jaylen Brown, Romeo Langford and two first round picks for Kawhi Leonard
The Los Angeles Clippers gave up a total of five first round picks for the chance to sign Kawhi Leonard in the summer of 2019. Those picks were sent to the Oklahoma City Thunder for one of their superstars in Paul George.
The likelihood that the Clippers would turn around a year later and give up the man they uprooted their future for is far-fetched, even if Leonard let the team know now that he had no intention of re-signing in the summer of 2021.
More likely than not, Los Angeles would hold onto the greatest player to ever suit up in Clippers colors than trade him just a year into investing so much into him. If Leonard ever did hit the trade market again, though, the Boston Celtics are one of the few teams that are uniquely positioned to make a move for the 2014 and 2019 NBA Finals MVP.
The C’s have been linked to the former 2x defensive player of the year before. In 2018, the C’s could have offered a package of Brown and Tatum after the duo led Boston to within one game of the Eastern Conference Finals championship and the NBA Finals.
The deal didn’t go down then, and now with Tatum blossoming into a star, the C’s have a worse trade package to offer for Leonard. That said, if the Clippers’ title window is open for far less time than was previously thought, the C’s have a puncher’s chance of enticing Los Angeles with a deal for their top star.
