Romeo Langford

The first candidate is one who wasn’t necessarily expected to produce this past season after being taken with the final lottery pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Romeo Langford had several injuries throughout his college career and even had injuries back in his high school playing days.

That trend continued in 2019-20, with Langford playing in only 27 games out of a possible 64. Brad Stevens was unable to deploy the his recent lottery pick this past season, but things could change in 2020-21 if Langford’s body holds up.

Simply put, we haven’t seen much of what Langford could do. While he did have a 16-point outburst against the Atlanta Hawks in February, that was his only double-digit scoring effort in his career.

While fellow 2019 first round pick Grant Williams has carved out more of a role in the rotation, Langford has struggled to adjust to the pro game, averaging just eight points and four rebounds with under an assist in his per-36 minute splits.

With expectations low, he could exceed his modest expectations next season. Given Stevens’ track record for developing wings, Langford figures to be a good candidate to break out and show the world why Ainge used up a lottery pick on the Indiana product.
