Boston Celtics: 3 wings C’s should target in the 2020 NBA Draft
By Mark Nilon
The Boston Celtics will hold the rights to three first round picks in this June’s draft. There are many routes they could choose to go. If they opt to snag a wing, here are some ideal choices.
Over the years the Boston Celtics have accumulated a plethora of draft capital. Since the 2013 trade that sent Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets, Beantown has amassed 13 first round selections, three of which will be within this upcoming draft.
Of these draft rights, Danny Ainge and co. have managed to nab the current number one option on the team in Jayson Tatum (2017) and the arguable 2020 All-Star snub Jaylen Brown (2016). Alongside these two the C’s also roster former All-Star forward Gordon Hayward and defensive specialist Marcus Smart, both of whom can sub in at the wing alongside Tatum and Brown — Hayward, specifically, starts alongside the aforementioned young duo.
Despite obviously having an obscene amount of depth at the position, Boston used their sole lottery pick from 2019 on Romeo Langford, the 19 year old shooting guard/ small forward out of Indiana. Though his rookie season has been filled with it’s fair share of ups and downs, from time to time the young prospect has shown the potential of being a solid piece to this Celtics puzzle at some point down the road if he continues to progress.
While the team also has the All-Star game’s starting point guard from the last two seasons in Kemba Walker, when looking upon the shamrock’s roster, it’s hard not to point out their wing position as the strongest area of the unit.
Though they may not need to add any more pieces to their current bunch of shooting guards and small forwards, we as fans know that Mr. Ainge works in mysterious ways. In regard to this upcoming draft, it wouldn’t surprise us at the Houdini if Boston came away with at least one player from those positions.
With this in mind, here are three wings we could see the C’s selecting with one of their picks.
