Orlando Magic

Last, but certainly not least, we have a team that we hope, nay, pray the Boston Celtics engage in trade talks with. Since even before the season started, we’ve been suggesting that the team should reach out to the Orlando Magic in reference to trading for one of their front court talents, namely Mo Bamba.

Still, to this day, we believe this to be a great idea for the C’s.

Drafted sixth overall back in 2018 the 7-0 center has found himself as the primary backup to face of the franchise big Nikola Vucevic. In just 14.5 minutes per game with the Magic, Bamba has put up averages of 5.5 points, five rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game on 47 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent shooting from deep.

Eye-popping stats? No. However, convert these numbers into per-36 minute averages and the big is boasting stats of 13.8 points, 12.4 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game.

If traded for, the C’s would land a young (21) floor spacing big still on his rookie deal, which would make matching contracts a simple walk in the park.

Outside of Bamba, however, we’ve also discussed the idea of Boston potentially looking into the availability of their sixth year power forward Aaron Gordon.

"Similar to the career trajectory of Detroit Pistons’ power forward Blake Griffin, Gordon started out his professional career by impressing audiences with his freakish athleticism and arena rattling dunks but, over time, has managed to work himself into a more well rounded/ multidimensional player. In 2019-20, the 24 year old was finding himself having quite a nice season with the Magic, boasting averages of 14.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. With him in tow the Celtics would have a fantastic pick & roll four at their disposal who will draw a defense’s attention when in the vicinity of the rim, can sky high for lob passes and who has also improved upon his 3-point shot since entering the league."

It’s a well known fact that we believe the Boston Celtics should look into bolstering their front court depth if they truly wish to be seen as legitimate title contenders. A team like the Magic rosters a few specific players that could do wonders for the shamrocks if acquired via trade.
