Christian Wood, PF

The final player on the list is undoubtedly going to be the most difficult one to sign for the Boston Celtics and, really, for most teams that have interest in him. Christian Wood has become a hot free agent due to his stellar play before and after the Andre Drummond trade.

Pistons Twitter was high on the un-drafted 2016 rookie when he was playing in spurts while Detroit had it’s former All-NBA big man. After Drummond was shipped off to Cleveland in one of the trade deadline’s most eyebrow-raising moves, Wood broke free and became Detroit’s best player.

As many now know, Wood was one of the most prominent NBA names to contract Coronavirus, and the leaking of his test, according to the New York Post, has upset the big man. That could benefit every other interested team, given the Detroit Pistons’ unprofessional-ism and violation of HIPAA laws.

Why would Wood want to return to a team with so much dysfunction? There are greener pastures out there, and (literally) none greener than the Boston Celtics. Wood, at age 24, would be the perfect compliment at the center spot in a lineup that features under-25 stars like Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

If he isn’t too pricey, that is.

We will see, though. The season’s suspension has really robbed Wood a chance to maximize his earnings this off-season, but perhaps the small sample size can convince an inept franchise (like the New York Knicks) to overpay him.

However, if winning is his goal, frankly he should look no further than the Celtics.

Next. 3 former C's who could return next season. dark
