Whenever the official offseason begins, the Boston Celtics will presumably try to bolster their roster for yet another successful campaign in 2020-21. Today, we look at three former C’s that could realistically make their way back to Beantown.

The 2019-20 NBA season was very kind to the Boston Celtics as a whole. Cultivating a record of 43-21, by the time of the suspension the team had sent two of it’s players — Kemba Walker & Jayson Tatum — to that February’s All-Star game, ranked third in the Eastern Conference standings, fifth in the league standings and attained their sixth consecutive postseason berth, giving them the second most playoff appearances since the 2000-01 season.

However, even with all the pluses that came with the season, it would be wrong of us to say the C’s were a unit without any minuses. Most notably, perhaps the team’s biggest weakness was their second unit’s offensive production.

Out of all 30 teams in the NBA, Boston’s bench ranks 29th in points per game (27.2), 27th in 3-point percentage (31.6), 24th in minutes (17.1) and dead last in 3-point field goals made.

Despite the questions surrounding Gordon Hayward‘s player-option for next season (we expect he’ll opt in) Boston’s starting unit seems set for the next couple of season — baring any unforeseen roster shakeups. So, heading into the league’s free agency period, one game plan the Celtics should abide by: bolster the bench unit.

In regard to whom Danny Ainge could look into acquiring to strengthen their second team players, we’ll be looking at three former C’s that could make their way back to Beantown via free agency.
