Boston Celtics: 3 ways Jayson Tatum could one day win league MVP

Guide the C’s to 60 or more wins
This one seems a bit curious, I know. You’re probably thinking to yourself: a team’s win total is more of an overall team accomplishment, not just one player’s.
While this logic is correct, and that basketball is an overall team sport, one player could be the difference between a franchise heading towards the lottery and being considered a playoff contender.
As far as the Boston Celtics are concerned, luckily this extreme is not the case.
Take Tatum off the roster and they still have the makings of a top-8 team in the East. However, with Tatum, they have proven to be a top-3 seed in their conference at 43-21, a top-5 team in the NBA and a legitimate title contender in 2019-20 and, frankly, for the foreseeable future… and this has been accomplished in just his third year in the league.
With the way thing’s currently stand, it looks as though Jayson Tatum should only get better as the years progress. Should this happen, with him in tow, isn’t it safe to say the team’s overall success should improve as well?
Over the past ten years, eight of the award’s recipients were on teams that attained 60 or more wins and were the biggest reasons as to why.
In regard to the previous two slides, it must be noted that almost anyone can achieve those goals that are not in the running for league MVP.
Take a look at this season for instance: Bradley Beal is averaging 30+ points per game and Trae Young is second in the league in assists per game with 9.3. While these two players are incredibly talented, you will find them nowhere near being considered for the MVP award in 2019-20.
Why?
Because both of their teams have a losing record (combined, they have are 44-87, which is just one more win that the Boston Celtics actually have) and appear slated for yet another lottery selection.
Individual stats look great, but truly mean nothing if your team doesn’t wind up benefiting from it. Above all the other points we’ve made — because we know no matter what he will improve as the years go on — in order for Jayson Tatum to find himself in contention for the league’s Most Valuable Player award, he needs to guide his team to a plethora of wins.
Getting the C’s to, or around 60 total wins should be the goal.
