Mo Bamba, C

We’ve been preaching it for quite some time: the Boston Celtics should look into acquiring Mo Bamba. Now, with a plethora of draft assets, and little use for another undersized guard — for the team already has Walker, Tremont Waters, Carsen Edwards, etc. — or a project player at another position, they should put this plan into action.

The conversation of “the Celtics need to work on upgrading their center rotation” has followed this team from last offseason all the way till now. And, while their main rotation of Daniel Theis, Enes Kanter and Robert Williams has produced admirably at times — specifically Theis –, the team needs to bolster the position if they wish to ascend in the championship contender power rankings.

Mo Bamba could serve as that fix.

The former sixth overall pick back in 2018 has started just one game during his two year career, and averages only 15.3 minutes during this span. However, when playing the same position as teammate Nikola Vucevic, minutes will unsurprisingly be tough to attain.

Per-36 minutes, the 21 year old is boasting averages of 13.7 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game on 47 percent shooting from the field and 33 percent shooting from 3.

In short, he is a young 7-0 talent who has impressive athleticism, defensive chops and has proven capable of stretching the floor. With the fact that the Magic re-signed Vucevic to a four-year, $100 million deal this past offseason, it appears they are set at center for the foreseeable future, which makes Bamba expendable.

Offering a package focused on the Grizzlies and Boston’s pick, coupled with players to make the numbers work, could be enough to send the talented center to the Boston Celtics and, in theory, could serve to be the type of presence at the five this team has been longing for.
