Imagining two alternate universe scenarios for the Boston Celtics in 2019-20

Whether or not the 2019-20 NBA season resumes at the end of its current suspension, nothing is stopping the Houdini from imagining what different roster makeups the Boston Celtics could have.

Things worked out pretty well for the Boston Celtics in 2019-20 before the season was suspended due to the ongoing global pandemic COVID-19. They had replaced their franchise point guard with the next best option, and the addition by subtraction proved to work out for the budding young stars of the franchise.

Speaking of said stars, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown crossed the 20-point per game plateau en route to breakout seasons. Tatum isn’t just a star, he is an All-Star that carried the team on his back during the month of February averaging 30 points per game. Brown also exploded for 30 points four different occasions this season after reaching that mark once last season.

Throw in the renaissance of Gordon Hayward, the continued chaotic brilliance of Marcus Smart and the mini-breakout of Daniel Theis as a starter, and you have all the ingredients for what has been a fun and successful season for the C’s.

Unfortunately, it has been put on hold with the possibility of a cancelled season still on the table. It would be a shame to never see how far this team could have gone this season. That said, things could have gone very differently had certain players re-signed with the team.
