Boston Celtics: top-3 scrappiest players in the NBA
By Mark Nilon
Patrick Beverley
Starting off our list we have another guard who’s seemingly not intimidated by anyone on the hardwood and who’s best known for getting under people’s skin.
Every game, it appears Patrick Beverley plays with a chip on his shoulder. Frankly, it makes sense being that he was a second round pick by the Los Angeles Lakers, immediately traded to the Miami Heat where he never actually ended up suiting up, played over in Europe for a few years and then, in 2013 (four years later) finally got his shot when he signed with the Houston Rockets.
Since then, he’s been a fan favorite for both Houston’s base (2013-17) and with the Los Angeles Clippers base (2017- present) thanks in large to his grit, grind and determination to fight on every single play.
Most recently, we saw him guard LA Lakers star LeBron James from time to time during their prime-time matchup this past Sunday and, despite the difference in stature (Beverly is 6-1, 185 pounds; James is 6-9, 250 pounds) the two-time All-Defensive players managed to hold his own, as James didn’t attempt a single shot attempt when being guarded by Beverly (according to ESPN).
From guarding talents anywhere from Russell Westbrook to Paul George, Patrick Beverly has managed to hold his own and, in some instances excel. Though his hustle and grit is sometimes perceived as “dirty” we here at the Houdini view it more so as scrappy.
