Boston Celtics: 3 free agent replacements for current underwhelming bench players
By Mark Nilon
Dropping four of their last five outings, the Boston Celtics are seemingly losing their stride at the worst time. Might Danny Ainge look to improve the roster via the open market?
For the majority of the 2019-20 season, the Boston Celtics have performed like one of the best team’s in the NBA. With a record of 42-21, they hold the third best record in the Eastern Conference and are tied for the fifth best record in the entire league.
They managed to send two of their starters — Kemba Walker and Jayson Tatum — to this year’s All-Star game and Head Coach Brad Stevens is in the running for this season’s NBA Coach of the Year award.
However, if one were to have started paying attention during their most recent five game stretch, these facts would come as quite a shock.
Since coming back from the All-Star break, the Celtics have accumulated a record of 4-5, with four of those loses coming within the past five outings.
Sure, we can all bring up the excuse that the roster has not been completely healthy during this trying stretch, but then that brings up another problem: the team’s reserves have, for the most part, underwhelmed greatly when the team’s needed them most.
Aside from Semi Ojeleye‘s 22 point performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston’s bench has proved to be quite a let down when receiving extended playing time. This could wind up being a huge problem in the postseason when the team needs to perform at their best.
Fortunately for the team, there are a few players on the open market who could prove to be upgrades over certain players that currently reside on Beantown’s roster. With this in mind, here are 3 free agents who the C’s could sign, and who they would come in to replace.
