Troy Daniels

A name that you’ve probably heard in the news more recently than Trey Burke, Troy Daniels is an intriguing option for this Boston Celtics team.

On March 1st the Los Angeles Lakers decided to part ways with the seven year veteran in an effort to add on players that they believe would give them a better chance of winning in 2020. Rumors are they are looking into the likes of Dion Waiters, JR Smith and Tyler Johnson or, in other words, guards that can create their own shot.

Luckily for the Celtics, they are chock full of players who can buy a bucket relying on solely themselves. What they don’t seem to have, however, is a consistent catch-and-shoot long range sniper in their arsenal.

Enter Troy Daniels.

Was Daniels otherworldly this year for the Lakers? No, but when he found minutes he delivered and played quite well. Through 41 games the shooting guard averaged 4.2 points on 39 percent shooting from the floor and 36 percent shooting from 3 in 11.1 minutes.

This would rank him first amongst the C’s reserves who have attempted 100 or more 3’s on the season. When taking into account that the team ranks fifth worst in 3-point percentage off the bench (31.8) it’s clear that Daniels — a career 40 percent shooter from deep — would only help their weak perimeter game.

As mentioned in the intro slide, the Celtics are quite top-heavy when it comes to fire-power. However, it takes an entire team to win a championship. Replacing a frequent DNP candidate like Javonte Green with a serviceable talent like Troy Daniels who excels in an area the team struggles in wouldn’t be the worst move for this shamrocks squad as they gear up for a deep playoff run in 2020.
