Javonte Green

Lastly, we have a player that, frankly, some of you may have even forgotten was on the team. This past offseason, Javonte Green was a true fan favorite of the C’s Summer League Roster.

Averaging 10.8 points, 4.8 boards and 1.8 steals per game on 50 percent shooting from the field the athletic guard had both the media and front office believe he could be a serviceable role player come the regular season for Boston.

Now, 54 games into the season, the first year guard is averaging just nine minutes per game and performing to the tune of three points and 1.7 boards on a fine 51 percent from the field but an underwhelming 26 percent from deep.

It would appear that Green is far from being a consistent player in Boston’s rotation in 2020 and, recently pointed out by CBS Sports, has found himself in the midst of a DNP streak.

"Green did not play during Tuesday’s 141-133 win over the Clippers. Green has not seen the floor in Boston’s past three games. The last time he saw action, he posted one point and three boards in four minutes off the bench against the Hawks on Feb. 7. His playing time has been extremely inconsistent…"

The Celtics signed Green with the hopes of him filling in as an athletic wing with defensive chops for their second unit. So far this year, these hopes have not yet matriculated into a reality.

A player that would fill this role exactly that is currently a free agent could be the seasoned veteran with significant amount of playoff and championship experience: Iman Shumpert.

For his career the nine-year veteran holds averages of 7.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game on 34 percent shooting from 3. He could actually fill this type of roll that we expected from Green while also adding more postseason experience to this young and talented Boston Celtics squad.

If they’re not going to play Javonte Green anyway, the team might as well look into someone who would better help this team moving forward in 2020.
