Improved offensive production in the second unit

As previously mentioned, the Boston Celtics have two players participating in this year’s All-Star game in Chicago. With a lineup that consists of Kemba Walker, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Gordon Hayward and Daniel Theis, it’s hard not to see the bevy talent this starting unit has.

Their second unit, however… well, that’s something that needs some improvement, specifically on offense.

Sure, the C’s have Marcus Smart and Enes Kanter coming off the pine, but Smart, though much improved on offense in comparison to the beginning of his career, is still more of their defensive specialist and Kanter simply can’t do it all himself.

The team’s bench ranks 28th in the association in points per game (29). They shoot within the top-10 in field-goal percentage (45.9) but shoot back down to 26th in 3-point percentage (31.3).

In a league predicated on floor spacing and 3-point shooting, this is not the type of efficiency a top-tier team like Boston should want to have.

Hopefully the recent play of Brad Wanamaker and the emergence of rookie Romeo Langford are signs of what’s to come for the squad. However, if something doesn’t change for the better, it could really wind up hindering them come playoff time.
