New York Knicks

The New York Knicks should be looking to get rid of most of the veterans clogging up their roster. Mitchell Robinson shouldn’t have minutes stolen away from him by Taj Gibson or Bobby Portis. Likewise, Kevin Knox shouldn’t cede playing time to the likes of the newly acquired Maurice Harkless or Reggie Bullock.

Actually, while we’re at it, what is Elfrid Payton doing starting over Dennis Smith Jr. and Frank Ntilikina? In typical Knicks fashion, the wrong players are playing down the stretch of a lost season.

A giant problem with the current state of that franchise is that they might not actually view this season as lost. With Steve Mills being replaced as president of basketball operations by Leon Rose, there could be a spirited playoff push brewing in the city that never sleeps.

In reality, the Knicks should take a rest-of-the-season-long nap and regroup for the 2020-21 season. As one of the few teams with cap space this off-season, they may actually be able to build a sustainable roster.

If they are sensible this season, they will buy out vets like Gibson, Portis and Payton. In that scenario, the Boston Celtics should pursue any and all of them ahead of their playoff push.
