Pros

The most obvious pro of a Turner reunion is that it wouldn’t cost any assets in a trade. As Deveney notes, however, it would come at some sort of cost:

"One issue the Celtics would have in signing Turner, though: They don’t have a roster spot. That could change ahead of the trade deadline. If not, the Celtics probably would have to give up Brad Wanamaker to accommodate a free-agent signing this month."

Why he chose Wanamaker as the goner is perplexing. Wanamaker is enjoying a fine second season as a journeyman point guard who has earned his spot on the roster by not just his play, but also his impact on rookie guards like Carsen Edwards and Tremont Waters.

Vincent Poirier would be a better scapegoat if the team brought in Turner. Now, as for what Turner would bring to the floor, he brings all-around production–holding career averages of 10 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

Whether or not he can hit those benchmarks remains to be seen. He has not had the most productive campaign coming off the bench in Atlanta, and struggled in his final years in Portland. That said, he did enjoy efficient years under Brad Stevens from 2014-2016.

Maybe that fire can be reignited?
