Isaiah Thomas

Unlikely? Perhaps. Impactful if executed? Very.

Before you bash me in the comments section below, I understand the likelihood of Isaiah Thomas being traded to the Boston Celtics — or, frankly, moved at all — at the deadline is not very high, and that he hasn’t really been rumored to be on the block. But it would be wise of the front office to at least inquire about what it would take to trade for their former franchise point guard.

Wasting away on a 17-32 Washington Wizards, Thomas has been having himself a solid statistical season filling in for the injured John Wall. Averaging 23.1 minutes per game the point guard is putting up 12.2 points and 3.7 assists on 41 percent shooting from the field and a career high 41 percent shooting from deep.

We all know how great IT can be in a Brad Stevens run system — 28.9 points and six assists in 2016-17. If the C’s could execute a deal for the 30 year old — on a one year, $2.3 million contract — it would instantly shore up their backup point guard position.

Yes, Brad Wanamaker has played well as of late (averaged15.5 points, four assists and three steals over the last two games) but we know what his ceiling is and, frankly, it isn’t too high. For a majority of the season, when Kemba Walker is on the pine and Wanamaker comes in, the team seemingly loses all its mojo.

To put it short: Wanamaker cannot command the second unit, which could prove to be a big problem come the postseason.

Isaiah Thomas on the other hand… well, we’ve seen what he can do while wearing green & white.

Is he the top-three scorer / MVP candidate he once was? No. But he’d be a fantastic asset to have coming off the bench for the Boston Celtics, both now and in the playoffs.

At the very least, Danny Ainge should entertain the possibility of a reunion between the C’s and Thomas.

I know I’d love to see it! Wouldn’t you?
