Danny Ainge has stated that the Boston Celtics could look into bolstering their bench at this year’s trade deadline. If this is the case, here are some players they should look into acquiring.
For months, media and fans alike have expressed their feelings about the 2019-20 Boston Celtics roster and decided that the main thing they should consider bolstering is the team’s starting center postion.
Names like Clint Capela — recently traded to Atlanta — and Andre Drummond have both been reported to be on the C’s radar, thus showing that the franchise’s front office is interested in gauging the possibility of ramping up their big-man stock.
However, according to President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge, improving the team’s starting pivot isn’t exactly their main priority heading into this year’s trade deadline.
"“I think our No. 1 need is health,” he said. “I think we’re going to look to see if there’s ways to strengthen the end of our bench. We like all of our guys. We do have probably too many really young guys.”"
While some may be upset to see these comments, for maybe they wanted some sort of blockbuster deal to go down this trade season, Ainge has got a point: the Boston Celtics could use some help off the pine.
Currently, the team’s second unit ranks 27th in the league in points per game (29.1), 28th in 3-point percentage (30.2) and, outside of Marcus Smart, consists of no one considered to be threatening to the opposition.
We’ve seen it with the league’s most recent championship teams — a strong secondary unit goes a long way in the postseason. If this is truly the route Danny Ainge wishes to go, here are 3 players he should consider dealing for to help improve the team’s bench.
