Outlining 3 different trade deadline outcomes for the Boston Celtics
Making a blockbuster trade
The final scenario is not one that seems likely…but you never know. Despite Windhorst’s words, Hayward may end up on the trade block if the right superstar talent comes along. Who that player could be is anybody’s guess.
That said, it seems likely that the Boston Celtics would get involved in a trade for Karl-Anthony Towns if he were to hit the open market.
As I pointed out yesterday, there have been rumblings of Boston getting involved in a bidding war for Towns in that scenario:
"As much as the Celtics are one of the teams that like Capela, he’s not the only guy that they have their eyes on. You know, Karl-Anthony Towns is a name that we’ve heard quite often and right now Minnesota isn’t quite ready to engage teams in conversations about him. But make no mistake about it, he too will be a player that I think if they make him available, Boston will be among the teams that will express interest."
Those were the words of NBCSports Boston’s A. Sherrod Blakely, a connected source, on the matter.
Whether it is Towns, Kevin Love or Andre Drummond, who was previously linked to the Celtics, there is room for a blockbuster if Ainge so chooses to kick the tires on any. With a loaded core and several draft picks at his disposal, anything can happen.
The only question that remains is: will anything happen?
