3 backup point guards the Boston Celtics should consider acquiring before the trade deadline

Derrick Rose
So far removed from his MVP days and yet Derrick Rose is playing almost as effectively nine years later. Sure, this statement sounds ridiculous, but if you take a closer look, it’s not as far fetched as it sounds.
Through 36 games, the point guard is boasting averages of 18.1 points, 5.8 assists and just under a steal per game on 50% shooting from the field and 32% from 3 in 25.8 minutes per game. To put this into perspective, during his MVP season in 2010-11, Rose averaged 25 points, 7.7 assists and a steal per game on 45% shooting from the field and 33% shooting from deep in 37.4 minutes per game.
When looking at his per-36 minute conversations for 2019-20, you will find that the 31-year-old point guard averages about the same points (25.2), more assists (8.1) and about the same amount of steals (1.1) while shooting 5% better from the field in total.
Is he an MVP candidate anymore? No. However, is he a legitimate contender to take home the Sixth Man of the Year award? Absolutely and, considering his friendly $15 million contract coupled with the fact that the Detroit Pistons seem to be on the verge of an all out fire sale, the idea of the Boston Celtics concocting a deal for the athletic, seasoned and, at this point in time, underrated veteran point guard is not necessarily outlandish.
His stupendous scoring prowess coupled with his much improved facilitation skills would be welcomed with open arms off the bench, and he would easily be an upgrade over Brad Wanamaker at the backup point guard position.
